Egyptian foreign minister to visit India for three days

New Delhi, May 27 (IANS) In the first high-level visit from Egypt after the revolution, Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Elaraby begins a three-day visit Saturday, during which he will hold talks with his counterpart, S.M. Krishna, and meet other members of the Indian establishment, including Vice President Hamid Ansari.

According to the ministry of external affairs, Elaraby will call on Ansari Saturday afternoon and hold formal talks with Krishna Monday evening.

Elaraby's visit is the first by a high-level Egyptian official after the people's revolution in January, which led to the overthrow of the Hosni Mubarak regime.

India has been regularly in touch with the North African nation, with three ministerial- level visits from India in the last two months.

In March, Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed visited Cairo. This was followed by the visit of Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi and Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Jitin Prasada in April.

During his visit, Ahamed had reiterated India's position that it supported the popular revolution and was ready to provide all help in the transistion period.

Quraishi had made presentations on the Indian method of holding polls, including the electronic voting machines. Egypt is scheduled to hold presidential elections in November.
