Leh
Leh, The capital of Ladakh, Leh is also a preferred hiking locale and is known for some of the best hikes in the country. The major attraction is the nine storey Leh Palace (Built by Sing ge Namgyal in 16th century) and Tsemo (Victory Peak) built by Tashi Namgyal. The other places of importance are the Sanskar Monastery, Shanti Stupa Zoravar Fort etc. Leh can be subdivided into four main tourist circuits.

The Hemis and Thikse Monastery
The Hemis is especially well-known for a massive painting of the Buddha, which is displayed to the public once in 11 years, and the Thikse monastery, near Leh, is considered to be an architectural wonder. The Shey monastery has a huge gold-plated copper statue of the Buddha. Alchi, Likir and Lamayuru are also amongst the oldest gompas of Ladakh.

Nubra valleys
The Nubra Valley is the most recently opened area of Ladakh. Nubra attracts you to a trip back in time into a nearly forgotten 'Shangri La'. With magnificent views and delightfully hospitable inhabitants, it is quite an experience.

Wildlife in Ladakh
Ladakh possesses nearly no natural forests, though along riverbanks and valleys some greenery does exist. In this tremendously harsh environment the untrained eye would hardly see any evidence of wildlife at all. Animals, which have adapted to the rigorous conditions however, thrive on the minimal vegetation, poor shelter, rocky terrain and bitter cold. Nevertheless, most creatures, notably the ungulates, do migrate to lower regions in winter while others, like the brown bear and marmots, choose to hibernate.

Ladakh Festivals
Ladakh Festival offers one of the best dance chains that attract tourists from all over the world. Various programs are held there. Amongst them the Archery Festival is the famous and most interesting in Ladakh. It is practiced in few suburban villages, where it is mandatory or each and every villager to practice the archery according to the pre-assigned guidelines.

Lakes in Ladakh
The Tso Morari Lake is one of the biggest lakes in Ladakh region and is almost like an inland sea and also Kyaghr lake is the halting place for trekkers moving from the Kiangdum camping ground to the Tsomorari Lake.

Dha-Hanu
It is the Land of the "Drok-Pa"an Indo Aryan race. Only two villages Dha & Biama are open for tourists. Their cultural and religious practices are totally different from the rest of Ladakh. Bon-Chos believe in an ancient Pre-Buddhist animist religion known as "Bon-Chos".These people abstained from bathing all their lives saying that " If you wash your self,your luck goes away" but since the last few years this practise is beginning to fade away.It has much to offer to scholars in the field of Ethnology&Social Anthropology.

Central Ladakh
This is a very stunning area with lots of Monasteries and villages. The capital of Ladakh (Leh) also comes under this area. The major magnetisms are the nine storey Palace (Leh), the Palace Museum of Stok, Hemis, Thiksey, Chemrey, Phyang, Lamayuru, Spituk, Ridzong, Alchi Monasteries and villages of Basgo, Nimoo, Sanskar etc. This is very short information given above.
